Project Support

The Dover Public Library is building better community through inclusive programming and resources for lifelong learning. We are a resource for accessible education, outreach and materials for community members at every age.

The In Harmony Concert Series is a free monthly concert hosted by the Dover Public Library. This program is supported, in part, by a grant from the Delaware Division of the Arts, a state agency, in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts. The Smyrna High School Select Choir is an auditioned choir of singers in grades 10-12. Under the direction of Ms. Kristen Hughes, this award winning group brings music to LIFE with their interpretations and musicality. These students express their love of music through challenging choral pieces.

The In Harmony Concert Series brings 11 concerts a year to the Dover community, free for residents of all ages. Artists are invited to perform from a wide range of backgrounds and musical styles, giving the audience the opportunity to listen and learn about music from around the world.

Two people singing in period garb

Brandywine Baroque
Comus by Thoman Arne
Wilmington and Rehoboth Beach
General Operating Support

Brandywine Baroque’s mission is to present historically informed performances of Baroque and other music on period instruments, using professional musicians, in ways that excite a diverse public about old music, and bring new audiences to understand and enjoy it.

Brandywine Baroque presents the Masque of Comus by Thomas Arne. Comus is a masque adapted from John Milton’s masque of the same name by John Dalton in 1738. The music was set by Thomas Arne and helped establish the composer’s reputation. The poet John Dalton adapted Milton’s masque of 1634 so as to fit 18th century theatrical conventions and published it in 1738 as Comus, a Mask (Now adapted to the Stage). He extended its musical content by the addition of lyrics from elsewhere in Milton’s work. The work was first performed at London’s Theatre Royal, Drury Lane on 4 March 1738 and after its successful run was performed elsewhere and revived several times. Brandywine Baroque will perform a modern semi-staged version of Comus in Wilmington on March 13 and 15 and in Rehoboth Beach March 14.
