City of Lewes
Lewes Summer Concert Series
Lewes
Project Support

The City of Lewes has hosted the Lewes Summer Concert Series for over 15 years and is one of the most anticipated events of the year for residents and visitors. The goal is to provide artistic performances that expose attendees to a variety of musical genres. The concerts run for 12 weeks from June through August, Tuesdays from 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm at Stango Park. Attendees are encouraged to bring their chairs, blankets, snacks and refreshments, and of course, their dancing shoes. The Parks and Recreation Commission assures that visitors have a quality experience by maintaining beautiful gardens, routine landscape maintenance as well as maintenance checks of the equipment. The park offers an outdoor stage that can accommodate up to 45 performers.

Each year the concert attendance runs between 4,000 and 5,000 people. The Lewes Chamber of Commerce estimates that Lewes hosts 400,000 to 500,000 visitors each year a large number of whom access the City maintained parks, playgrounds beaches and community events along with patronizing local businesses and restaurants. The free performances held in a casual outdoor setting creates a readily accessible way for individuals, whether visitors, full time or part time residents, individuals with differing abilities, various socioeconomic backgrounds, and those with transportation challenges to enjoy and appreciate the arts in many forms.

Milford Second Street Players
A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum
Milford
General Operating Support

Second Street Players is a year-round community theater which produces shows covering practically every genre. Included in our yearly productions, you will find musicals, dramas, comedies, original works, our Children’s Theater and cooperative productions with other cultural groups and schools. Riverfront Theater is located at 2 South Walnut Street on the south bank of the Mispillion River in scenic downtown Milford, Delaware.

This is the current production in 2023 season for the Second Street Players of Milford. They are producing the classic musical comedy A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum with book by Burt Shevelove & Larry Gelbart; music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim. This zany madcap farce based on the plays and stories of Plautus has been pleasing crowds since it was first performed in 1962. The show includes well known songs of musical theater including “Comedy Tonight!” This production is open to the public, tickets are $25.00 per person (with a $1 dollar discount for seniors, students, military and members.) The show is not recommended for children due to adult themes and situations. The production was approached in the spirit of the 80’s comedies that director John Moller grew up watching, specifically films like Airplane! which layer the comedy in unique and surprising ways. They have also taken the framing of the piece to heart and embraced the show within a show nature of this particular funny thing.
