In 1947…
The Delaware General Assembly passed a resolution authorizing an annual appointment by the Governor (Walter Bacon, pictured) of a Poet Laureate for the State of Delaware. The first Poet Laureate of Delaware was Edna Deemer Leach of Wilmington from 1947 to 1949. Since that time we’ve had sixteen (16) Poets Laureate.
